Is VAD Mobile Compatible With My Car?

VAD Mobile Wireless is compatible with all CAN enabled VW/Audi vehicles with the exception of the B8 chassis models (2008 A5/S5, 2008.5 A4/S4).

"The Original" VAD-Mobile is compatible with virtually all VW/Audi Group vehicles with ECU's that communicate over the K-Line network. This covers most models from 1990 - 2005. (VAD Mobile cannot connect with ECU's that communicate over the CAN-Bus network, so has limited compatibility with 2006 and newer vehicles.)

The following is a list of VAG vehicles that the Original VAD Mobile will communicate with; both from the North American and European Markets. If your vehicle does not appear on the list, it may still be compatible. Please contact us if you require further clarification.

OBD-I (1990-1996)

OBD-I vehicles use an older diagnostic connection known as the 2X2 adapter. This adapter has two small rectangular connection plugs, colored white and black. VAD Mobile does not include a 2X2 adapter in its standard kit offering, but one can be purchased for an additional $39.00.

OBD-II vehicles use the industry standard 16-pin connector includes with all VAD Mobile packages. There is no need for a 2x2 adapter cable to complete the vehicle connection.

Vehicle Database

When performing a vehicle scan using VAD Mobile, the tool will search through the extensive list of every possible VW/Audi ECU to determine which ones are present in your vehicle. To save time, VAD Mobile includes a database of pre-defined vehicles where all of the ECU's found in that specific car have been identified and saved in the Vehicle List. For each model contained in the current VAD Vehicle Database, we have denoted all of the ECU’s present, and their individual communication rates.

This vehicle list is by no means exhaustive and is being updated on a regular basis. If your exact model is not shown in this list, do not fear; there is a simple procedure with VAD to add your vehicle to the database!

Is VAD Mobile Compatible With My PDA?

VAD Mobile is compatible with most PalmOS PDA's; however there are a few exceptions. VAD Mobile requires PalmOS 3.0 or newer. That means old PDAs, such as the original Palm Pilot, will not work. There are also a couple of exceptions with the very newest PDA’s. Due to modifications made by Sony to PalmOS 5.x, VAD Mobile will not run properly on Sony Clie’s running PalmOS 5.x. VAD Mobile DOES run on Sony Clie’s using PalmOS 4.x. Lastly, VAD Mobile requires a serial interface on the PDA. Some PDAs, such as the Zire and Zire 21 only provide USB interfaces. Because of this hardware limitiation, VAD Mobile will not run on those PDAs.

What follows list of PDAs are those that are able to run VAD Mobile. We have not tested on every PDA shown. In many cases, we provide an educated guess based on the PDA's physical interface and PalmOS version.
